Last weekend, I went on a trip to Hong Kong with some friends, took some photos, and wanted to share them here.
On Saturday morning (May 30, 2026), we departed from Shenzhen North and headed to Hong Kong West Kowloon Station. Taking the high-speed rail was quite fast—it took only 18 minutes. However, we still had to go through customs upon arrival, which took about ten minutes (since there weren't many people). Inside the station, we found a Bank of China ATM and withdrew Hong Kong Dollars directly (I withdrew 1,000 HKD, with a transaction fee of around 20 RMB).
After exiting the station, we walked to a nearby Cha Chaan Teng (Waso Cafe) for a quick bite. The pan-fried pork chop noodles cost 54 HKD (the exchange rate at the time was 1 HKD = 0.86 RMB). It was quite crowded, so we had to share a table, and the seating was cramped. The food tasted pretty good, though not much different from Cha Chaan Tengs in the mainland. Most of the larger shops basically accept WeChat Pay and Alipay.
Next, we took a stroll along Victoria Harbour and the Avenue of Stars, then walked to the Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier to catch the Star Ferry to Central. It cost 6.5 HKD, and you can simply scan your Alipay transit QR code, which automatically converts the currency. After that, we walked to the Central MTR Station, took the Island Line to Kennedy Town, and took some photos at a popular Instagrammable spot. We then grabbed a simple afternoon tea at a nearby McDonald's (it feels like if you want to eat cheap in Hong Kong, McDonald's is your only option).
Then we took the MTR to Causeway Bay, wandered around for a bit, and hopped on a Ding Ding (Hong Kong Tram) back to Central. We got off and walked to the Peak Tram Terminus on Garden Road to take the tram up to Victoria Peak. I bought a package ticket on Meituan for 134.7 RMB (round-trip tram + Sky Terrace 428), which was a decent price. From the observation deck at the peak, you get a panoramic view of the entire Hong Kong cityscape. We got there a bit early, around 5 PM, so we waited until 7:30 PM to shoot some night views before leaving. Afterward, we headed back down to Central and found a random Cha Chaan Teng for dinner (the two of us spent over 200 RMB; a plate of stir-fried broccoli alone was over 80 HKD, which is honestly quite expensive). Finally, we took the MTR to Tsim Sha Tsui Station, bought some medicine at Watsons (Po Chai Pills, Ricqles Peppermint Cure, Wong To Yick Wood Lock Ointment...), and walked back to our hotel.
The next day, Sunday (May 31, 2026), I ordered McDonald's delivery for breakfast using KeeTa (the Hong Kong version of Meituan). After checking out, we explored Tsim Sha Tsui, Sham Shui Po, Mong Kok, and Yau Ma Tei. In Sham Shui Po, there's an electronics/computer mall similar to Huaqiangbei in Shenzhen. At noon, we picked a random Cha Chaan Teng in Mong Kok for lunch, but this time it was a letdown. The price was cheap, but it felt like everything was a pre-cooked meal—it wasn't fresh and didn't taste good. We then strolled around Temple Street in Yau Ma Tei, which felt a bit deserted. Finally, we walked back to West Kowloon Station and took the high-speed rail back to Shenzhen North.
