Haikou, Beijing, Macau: Travel Diary and Photo Sharing. After the postgraduate entrance exam (which I probably didn't pass), I went on a graduation trip with my classmates. The trip lasted about 10 days, with an average cost of around 5,000 yuan per person.

All images in this article are in webp format, with an average size of about 1.5MB per image, totaling around 200 images!

On the evening of January 3, 2025, I departed from Jiangmen Station on the "水鱼号" to Zhanjiang West Station (ticket price: 213 yuan), then transferred to a green train to Haikou (hard sleeper, ticket price: 141.5 yuan). Arrived in Haikou around 6 a.m. Didn't get much sleep on the train due to the snoring around me. Transferred to the intercity train at Haikou Station to Chengxi Station (ticket price: 6 yuan), then went out for morning tea at Sanshun Tea House before heading back to the hotel to catch up on sleep.

Haikou

On the afternoon of January 4, 2025, I took a taxi directly from the hotel to Haikou's Qilou Old Street.

In the evening of January 4, 2025, I went to the Haikou Cloud Cave Library to watch the sunset (near the Century Bridge). Dinner was coconut chicken at Hainan Xiansheng (Fuguo Commercial Plaza), which is relatively affordable.

On the morning of January 5, 2025, I visited the Hainan Provincial Museum. In the afternoon, I went to the Five Officials' Temple (ticket price: 47 yuan, not much to see, not worth it). In the evening, I visited Fudi Night Market (night market/food street).

On January 6, 2025, I went out for another round of coconut chicken for lunch, then took the intercity train from Haikou East Station to Meilan Airport (ticket price: 8 yuan). In the evening, I flew to Beijing Daxing (ticket price: 446 yuan). On the way, I passed by the Coconut Palm Group and took a couple of photos. Originally, I planned to visit Qiongtai Academy in the afternoon, but it was closed when I arrived.

Beijing

On January 7, 2025, I arrived at Beijing Daxing Airport at 1 a.m. Took the airport shuttle to the hotel to drop off my luggage and take a shower. At 4 a.m., I took a taxi to Tiananmen Square to queue up for the flag-raising ceremony. After waiting for an hour, I entered Tiananmen Square around 5 a.m. and managed to secure a front-row spot. Stood there until 7:30 a.m. when the flag-raising began. After watching the ceremony, I queued up again to enter the National Museum, which didn’t open until 9 a.m., meaning another hour of standing. (Note: Advance reservations are required for Tiananmen Square and all attractions within it.)

After visiting the National Museum, I returned to the hotel to catch up on sleep.

On the evening of January 7, 2025, I woke up around 8 p.m. and noticed a light snowfall (very light, lasting less than half an hour). Took the subway to Wangfujing, where I had some Zhajiangmian (a bit too greasy for my taste, but the yogurt there was delicious). Afterward, I found a shared bike and went for a night ride around Tiananmen Square.

On January 8, 2025, I visited the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall and the Great Hall of the People in the morning. At noon, I went to the Tiananmen Gate Tower. In the afternoon, I had Peking duck at Siji Minfu (costing over 400 yuan for two people—quite expensive, and the portion was a bit small, but it was delicious).

In the evening of January 8, 2025, I visited the Temple of Heaven Park, followed by a meal at Lao Ciqikou Douzhi Shop. Later, I went to Beijing's Guomao area to take some night photos.

On January 9, 2025, I visited the Palace Museum in the morning, followed by Jingshan Park in the afternoon. Then, I had hotpot at Mabei'er. In the evening, I went to the Summer Palace, and later visited Nanluoguxiang.

On January 10, 2025, I took the high-speed train from Beijing North Station to Badaling Great Wall Station (ticket price: 23 yuan) to hike the Great Wall. I climbed up to the North 12th Tower. In the afternoon, I had Peking duck at Quanjude and then visited the Old Summer Palace. On the way back to the hotel, I passed by Tsinghua University and took a photo (I didn’t manage to get a reservation, as visits to Tsinghua are allocated by lottery).

On January 11, 2025, I went ice skating at the Lotus Pond Ice Rink in the morning. In the afternoon, I had another round of hotpot. Then, I headed to Beijing Capital Airport to fly to Wenzhou and transfer to Shenzhen (ticket price: 638 yuan). I spent the night at Wenzhou Longwan Airport. On January 12, 2025, I flew to Shenzhen early in the morning. After arriving in Shenzhen, I took a bus via the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge to Zhuhai.

Macau

On January 13, 2025, I entered Macau via the Gongbei Port (referred to as the Border Gate on the Macau side) in the morning. I took a complimentary shuttle bus (free buses that run between casinos and ports) to Grand Lisboa. Inside, I registered as a member and received a 100 HKD bonus. I then exchanged another 100 HKD for 200 HKD worth of chips. I played dice, betting 200 HKD each time on "big" and won twice while losing once. In the end, I walked away with 400 HKD (100 HKD in, 400 HKD out). After that, I visited the Ruins of St. Paul and the Church of St. Dominic, followed by the Mount Fortress. I also went to Wynn Macau to see the Prosperity Tree (Lucky Tree). Then, I took the Macau Light Rail to Taipa, getting off at the West Taipa station. I explored The Venetian, Parisian, and Londoner, and also visited Rua do Cunha. Finally, I took the shuttle bus back to the Border Gate and returned to Zhuhai. The next day, we all headed home.
